.The unity of muslims

There is only ONE way to achieve the unity of Muslim Ummah and that way is the way of Muhammad (Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam). This way was used by the Companions of Allah's Messenger (May Allah be pleased with them) and the Muslim scholars during the 13 centuries of Muslim rule of this world. One may say that everyone follows Qur'an but we are still disunited. That's true. The dispute is not in the Qur'an. The dispute lies with those scholars and their followers who interpret Qur'an based upon their own sectarian beliefs and ignore consensus of Islamic scholars (IJMA'). Muslims must return to the consensus of Islamic scholars which did exist from the period of SAHABAH (Companions of Allah's Messenger) till the fall of Khilafat-e-Islamiyah just one century ago. Muslims must think as one nation and must overcome the linguistic, geographical, regional and ethnic differences. The agents of colonial empires have seeded the linguistic and regional nationalism among Muslims. Muslims must leave linguistic and regional nationalism behind and become one body. If any part of the body feels pain the entire body should feel it and find the cure for it.
The intellectual differences of opinions should be not be considered as a dispute but it should not be discussed on streets or during Friday sermons. It should be discussed in the universities, and Dar-ul-Ulooms. A disputed matter or issue is that matter / issue in which the Muslim scholars are divided. Therefore, instead of condemning each other, calling names and killing Muslims we must follow whichever Muslim school of thought we want to follow but respect others.

The Prophet (PBUH) is reported to have said:

"Anyone who gets even one feet away from the Ummah has taken out the Islamic yoke from his neck, even if he prays and fasts."

That is why Qur’an calls upon all Muslims to be united and hold on steadfastly to the rope of Allah (i.e. Qur’an) and gives a stern warning to them not to create any divisions (3:103) amongst themselves.

If we look at the global picture as a whole, we find that the number of Muslims has grown steadily to more than a billion today. Muslims possess the richest resources of the world and the most fertile lands of the earth. In spite of this, how ironic that the most vulnerable and the most dependent people on earth are also Muslims.

Coming to the religious level, we find that the number of mosques is growing everywhere. The number of Muslims going to mosques is also increasing. The number of Muslims performing the annual pilgrimage increases every year, and in fact, has to be controlled to restrict the number. The number of Muslim organizations has been growing steadily. Whenever some differences arise among Muslims in one organization, they create another one and build another mosque. Noticing such an abundance of religious fervor among Muslims, Iqbal was led to say:

"Masjid to banadi shab bhar mein imaan ke hararat walon ne
man apna purana papi hay barson mein namazi ban na saka"
"Those with fervor in their faith built the mosque in a night, but the heart is sinful and did not prostrate in years."

Now, let us come to the real question. In spite of all the speeches and the sermons exhorting Muslims to unite, we see that the result is disappointing, to say the least. Why is that? The only way to diagnose this problem is to find the root cause according to Iqbal.

Unity of God Islam teaches the purest form of Monotheism and regards polytheism as the deadliest sin. A Muslim addresses GOD by His Personal Name: ALLAH --- the word "god" and its equivalents in other languages being unstable in the matter of connotation. Allah, according to Islam, is the One God,

As Muslims, it is our duty to perform Dhikr of Allah (SWT). The term Dhikr literally means to call back to memory, or to have something in concious mind. Therefore to perform Dhikr of Allah (SWT) actually implies that we ought to be God-concious OR concious of Allah (SWT) at all times. The term also means “to remember” or “a reminder”.
Some of the ways of performing Dhikr are as follows:
Prayer: Saying of prayer is a greatest form of Dhikr. Allah (SWT) says:
“…and establish prayer. Verily prayer keeps you away from the obscene and detestable and verily the remebrance of Allah is the greatest”. (29:45)
S V Mir Ahmad Ali states in his tafseer of this verse states:
Through the Holy Prophet (saww), the believers are addressed to pray “SALAT” regularly because it is the greatest remembrance of Allah (SWT).
Elsewhere, in the tafseer of verse 132 of Surah TA-HA (Chapter 20), he explains:
A faithful (Mumin) makes use of the SALAT as a ladder to reach the closest nearness of Allah (Mi’raj).
Contemplating on the creations, invoking Allah (SWT) and glorifying Him: These are also considered as Dhikr. Allah (SWT) says:
“Those who remember Allah, standing and sitting, and reclining, and reflect and contemplate on the creation of the heavens and the earth, (say): Our Lord! You have not created (all) these in vain! Glory be to You! Save us then from the torment of the fire”. (3:191)
“…and remember your Lord much and glorify Him in the evening and morning”. (3:41)
